Today I am linking up with some of my favorite girls to talk about how we are kicking off our summer. Please, send me your best summer ideas for little ones and don’t forget to stop over to visit Allie, Holly, Lisa, Trina & Sara.
We are starting summer a little early this year and heading down to the beach this weekend!! We have vowed to spend much more time at the beach this year. The kids are both at an age where they can really enjoy it and have been asking to go multiple times a day. Kevin and I both have the best memories of spending time at the beach as kids and we want that for our boys as well. Being at the beach also means a ton of family time for all of us. My parents are always down there, my aunt owns the place right next door, my grandmother stays with her and we have cousins and friends in, out, and around. It means so much to us that the boys get to experience shore life.
We park the car, kick off our shoes, eat more ice cream than we can handle, and swim until we pass out. Mornings at the beach are near the very top of my “favorite things in the world” list. We actually get up pretty early and either go for early morning bike rides or walk up to a restaurant. A lot of times we will ride our bikes up to grab bagels and coffee and go eat them out on the jetty or the sea wall. Everyone you pass in the morning smiles and says good morning. You can see that everyone is so fulfilled and happy to be down there and the joy is infectious. We stop and talk to the fisherman about what they are catching and, if we get a good report, will stop at the tackle shop for some bait ourselves to throw a couple lines in.
A few days ago I talked about our summer vacation plans. We have everything spaced out so that we have fun things planned all summer long. We have a TON of beach weekends planned, a road trip to Niagara Falls, a few weekend getaways, tickets to the Aquarium, Storybook Land, local museums, and we are topping off our summer with our big trip to DISNEY!! We have so much planned that I’m honestly worried that we might burn out on summer fun. On top of it all we have weddings, and christenings, and birthdays!
And on days when we don’t have big plans, you’ll catch us in our pool.
Funnily enough, Kevin was the one that always stressed the importance of family vacations pre-kids. I was very meh about family vacations. I thought it seemed expensive when there were plenty of fun things to go in our area. Now that we have kids, its ME that is constantly planning our next trip.
Since Memorial Day is still considered summer’s kick off we do have some fun plans. We have tickets to go to a Phillies game with my family. Hank has been there before but this will be Reid’s first MLB game!! On Memorial Day we host a big BBQ that will double as HANK’S 4TH BIRTHDAY!!
He wants a fishing theme this year and, while Miss Pinterest I am not, I think it will be adorable.
Vacations aside, I do have some personal goals for this summer like always wear sunscreen, read many many many more books, and finish up a couple house projects.
