It’s HERE!! SUMMERTIME!
We have had some crazy rain storms all week over here but that doesn’t even matter. SUMMER.IS.HERE!
While Memorial Day weekend DOES signal the start of summer, it’s really about reflection and acknowledgement of those who have lost their lives so that we can lead ours. I send my prayers to all our lost servicemen and say THANK YOU for the greatest sacrifice one can make.
I know a lot of kids are already on break but we still have a couple of weeks of school left. We are seriously counting down the days because the day after Hank’s preschool’s closing ceremony we are loading up the car and heading to Niagara Falls! Should be a fun little road trip to kick off our summer craziness.
If you want to catch up with us, check out my other posts from the week:
I gave some tips on marriage in my Marrying Young Survival Guide.
I talked about my favorite vacations in my Travelogue post.
I shared my new Crockpot Chicken Tikka Masala recipe.

Here are a few of my favorites this week:
Little Free Library
This week our town put in one of those free little libraries! It is adorable. We were first in line to donate some books and when you drive past now, you can see that it is filled. They put it right outside our fire station on the main strip through town. I’m looking forward stopping by this little library whenever we pass it on our summer walks.
This past weekend we were down at our beach for the pirate festival they hold for kids. The kids dress in costume, parade, and dig for buried treasure o the beach. My aunt’s beach house is right next door to ours so we were over there playing when she let her bird Earl sit on the boys shoulders. We were pretending that they were real pirates with a parrot on their shoulder. We were cracking up while the bird was jumping on the boys’ heads and walking on their shoulders singing songs.
Kevin and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary this week. And, while we are not b anniversary celebrators, we did use our anniversary to reconnect and reflect on our wedding, our marriage and our favorite parts of the life we’ve built together.
My amazing brother-in-law Brian and sister-in-law Michelle recently adopted an adorable puppy that they named Simba. Samba had a broken leg and the breeder was going to put the dog down until Brian and Michelle said that they would take the dog and see to him recovering. The dog appeared to be in perfect health besides the casted leg.
This was Simba just three weeks ago playing with the boys.
Well, through a series of unfortunate, and absolutely heartbreaking series of events Brian and Michelle were faced with having to have the pups leg amputed. It was a situation that I wish no pet parent ever has to go through. Through it all though, Simba has been in great spirits and now, only about a week post surgery, you would never even know that this dog went through such a terrible ordeal. Right after surgery he started jumping right up and is already running around with three legs like its nothing. We got to play with Simba for the first time post surgery yesterday and that little puppy is inspiring with how well he has adapted to such a tough situation.
Again I want to say that I am so thankful to those that have served and especially those and their families who have lost their lives serving. While this weekend often involves parties, barbecues, and the beach, it is because of your sacrifice that all of this is possible. I’m not saying not to celebrate your weekend and have fun, just remember why it is all possible.
We will be spending our Memorial Day BBQing and celebrating our Hank’s 4th birthday.
Here’s a little sneak peak from his party:
Can you guess the theme?
